More than thier posts, they seem to be offensively impersonating Lemmy’s main dev, which is sad. I guess it’s something federation allows…

Not to be a grammar cop, but they is a gender neutral pronoun which you can use to refer to a person of indeterminate gender. He/she excludes nonbinary individuals.

ohh, not my intention, sorry about that. “They” is plural though, and I was referring to a particular individual, and “it” sounded non human… I’ll try improving. BTW, non native English speaker either, hehe, so thanks !

The singular version of they emerged about 100 years after the word was first termed. While some editors had strong opinions about the singular they from the 14th to 18th centuries, some very notable authors during this time such as Shakespeare disagreed (as evidenced by his use of the singular they throughout his works). It was rarely contested as grammatically correct until society became more aware of people who were using it to define their gender identity and transgender individuals found themselves in the public spotlight with their rights being contested. Unsurprisingly the only people contesting whether it is grammatically proper today are the very same people who do not believe that transgender people deserve the same rights.

It happened to me first, since I protect Lemmy from a lot of this troll crap. Example. As I started to make admins aware of the pattern, it started to happen to Agreeable, Dessalines, nutomic and few other users. During this time the 4Chan /pol/ mass brigading also happened, and the sign up form was made stricter since then.

I find it a bit strong to basically equate a liberal defending their liberal opinions using mainstream media sources with impersonators poblicly spamming defecation pictures …

The person I explained in linked thread, before leaving, swore and said he will destroy Lemmy. Who knows which anon troll is soferman now, but some of these trolls have been really nasty towards this platform.

I’ve always thought the post to 4chan literally telling people to brigade us, followed by accounts trickling in that use almost the exact same MO (some combination of extreme porn, gore, Nazi propaganda, anti-Indian, anti-Jew, anti-Black, anti-LGBT) and how closely they seem to watch for new federated instances with open registration (Lemmy.ml is on what we call “open federation”, so there isn’t actually a comprehensive list of who we federate with that they can check for changes. Only the list of instances we block are manually configured.), and how several of these accounts pop up in quick succession before it all goes dormant for a while, all that’s pretty suspect. The average 4chan troll would have gotten bored ages ago, especially once it became more difficult, especially especially once they stopped getting attention for it. The fact that it’s persisted for this long definitely seems to be someone with a pretty strong grudge against us. I suspect they do this whenever they’re bored or angry as some messed up coping mechanism/revenge plot, which is why it’s so intermittent. Specifically Lemmy.ml because that’s where almost all of the trolling is targeted.

Is it Soferman? I have no idea, they’re not the only user who left (or usually, was forced to leave) less than amicably. China Number One, the user posing as a pro-PRC socialist but actually just posting racist, Chinese-supremicist BS that no actual socialist or anyone in the Chinese government would agree with is another candidate. Though at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter because we don’t know who they are IRL anyway.
