The transition is part of the problem. Even if the wealthy agreed, such a change couldn’t happen quickly as it would break the very society that the world exists on.
Then there’s the issue that 30% is still far too high, illustrating how even though we toss around the population number a lot, we do not comprehend what a huge number that is.
If campaigns were run purely on facts, the GOP probably wouldn’t exist at this point.
It’s all one ship, people just find themselves on different decks and front, middle, or rear depending on their country, location, and status. The only differences from the Titanic analogy are that there is no one to answer any distress calls, and there are no lifeboats.
The storage part is a big issue with current plans for CCS and DAC. If they end up turning around and repackaging the CO2 into something that can be released again, it’s only better than pumping out new petroleum and not a true reduction.
But the title is a bit wrong. It should be “Pulling CO2 out of the air alone won’t stop climate change”. Even if we dropped the CO2 level to preexisting levels (280ppm or even lower) there are still some feedbacks already in play that wouldn’t suddenly stop their contribution. It would be far better than continuing to add to CO2 for sure, but there is still going to be some climate change and adaptation needs regardless of how well we act. And of course, we are not acting very well.

I mean we could try and transition workers from a more negative industry type to a positive one…but that seems like a lot of work and less profitable, so never mind.
I don’t think it needs to be much bigger for an individual, just fast enough to keep them near the center even at a run. Smaller pads will be the way to go, just have to drive and control them in sync. Maybe predictive software to only run where your feet are at or will be, to minimize the noise.
Lots of different independent methods and sources that correlate, along with some approximations. Actual measured readings aren’t as accurate or match up in the early periods, which is why the IPCC decided to use 1980 as a baseline to start from for consistent and abundant data to compare with. This continues to be a side argument about if we’re really past 1.5C or not, since the graphs start differently. The “good” news is that as time goes on, that argument becomes less relevant because the differences shrink and catastrophic converges.
